Chronic disease & Health Coaching

Over 85% of chronic disease is driven by our diet, behavior and environment, not just our genes. That means we all have the power to prevent and reverse chronic illness by simply adopting healthier habits. The body can actually heal itself by optimizing diet, lifestyle and mindset.

6 in 10 adults have a chronic disease. 4 in 10 adults have two or more.

Chronic disease will cost our global economy $47 trillion over the next 20 years and will kill twice as many people around the world as infectious disease. Despite many new medications and procedures, the incidence of chronic disease continues to rise. We need a more effective way of treating chronic illness because the “pill for every ill” approach has proved to cause more harm than good. Our current health care system is focused on disease management, rather than prevention. Therefore, it's often the symptom that gets treated as opposed to the root cause. This leads people to rely on medication, which is typically ineffective, prolongs the illness, and causes a variety of unwanted side effects.

Functional medicine seeks to treat the root cause and restore balance in our bodies. The body is made up of many systems: circulatory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, immune, reproductive, respiratory, etc. When these systems are out of balance, it creates disease. When these systems are in balance, it creates health. Functional medicine is not just about improving diet, getting more exercise, managing stress, reducing exposure to environmental toxins, all of which are of course critical, but it is about creating health. Disease then goes away as a side effect.

In health coaching, clients are encouraged to play an active and engaged role in their treatment because their diet and behavior are the largest contributors to chronic disease. As a Health Coach, I focus on treating the root cause, by taking into account my client’s genetic uniqueness, as well as their lifestyle, environment and diet. The goal is that you can heal safely and effectively, build sustainable habits, prevent future illness, and live a healthy life.
