The Mind-Body Connection
What you think, believe and feel changes your body chemistry.
It’s probably known by most that our immune system is critical for healing, but did you know our nervous system is as well? Our nervous system regulates our immune system, proving the mind can have a major impact on our health and bodies. Our mental and emotional sphere effects our physical sphere. They are not mutually exclusive.
The body bears the burden of the mind.
The limbic system is a set of structures in the brain that regulates our emotions, perceptions, and stress. This area of the brain is connected to everything happening in our bodies. Our body’s systems, especially our immune system, listen to our thoughts and regulate everything in our bodies accordingly, which is why unhealthy thoughts and emotions can cause illness. Feelings like stress, anxiety, and depression cause an inflammatory response in the body, and when that is chronic, this wears down the immune system can cause disease.
Most of disease is behaviorally or mentally induced, which is why it’s so important for everyone to learn and practice some method of neutralizing the harmful effects of stress on the mind and body.
the body can heal itself when provided with the right conditions.
On the other hand, it is absolutely possible to use our minds to help heal our bodies.
One of my goals in working with clients is to help them gain greater confidence in their body’s healing ability and teach them how to use their minds to improve their health, rather than promote fear, suffering, and disease. When you learn how to activate the body’s own healing mechanisms, the body can heal itself when provided with the right conditions. You just need to remove the obstacles and toxic thoughts and behaviors. Our bodies can naturally repair, regenerate, and renew.
all healing is self-healing.
Approaching this layer of the healing process requires the client to be willing to play an active role in facing their fears and trauma. All healing is self-healing. The coach should teach them how to be more loving and compassionate toward themselves. If you focus on this, rather than on trying to cure the illness, healing will naturally begin.
Health isn’t just about eating healthy and exercising. It’s also about your attitude, mindset and behavior. Above all, it’s about creating balance and resilience.
Try to remember that health gets created from your lifestyle and your mindset. It is in your control and healing comes from within.
