Epigenetics

Our genes are not our destiny.

Epigenetics is the study of how our behavior and environment can turn on and off gene expression for disease without changing the DNA code itself. Many people with chronic health issues attribute it to their family history. Of course, genetic predispositions are important and should absolutely be taken into consideration, but they do not have to be our destiny.

Genes make you more vulnerable to diseases, but your behavior is what triggers it. This should come as a relief to anyone worried about inheriting an illness suffered by a relative. Just because you have a gene for a certain illness, doesn’t mean it will be expressed. The good news is you can control if it gets expressed or not.

How? By how you live and what you eat. A healthy lifestyle is the most potent medicine at your disposal. Our genetics load the gun, but our environment pulls the trigger.

Studies show that, over the past 30+ years, the greatest increase in disease came from: heart disease, stroke, depression and diabetes; all of which are directly related to environment, diet, and lifestyle behaviors.

By getting rid of unhealthy habits, and introducing healthy ones consistently, you can turn off gene expression for health issues such as: cancer, diabetes, heart disease, dementia, weight issues, and many others.
